On the afternoon of May 21, 2025, the botanical garden on the 7th floor of Beijing National Day School transformed into a vibrant gallery space, hosting its annual AP Art Exhibit from 4:30 to 5:40 PM. The event showcased an impressive collection of over 120 artworks from 22 talented students across multiple disciplines, including AP 2D Design, AP 3D Design, AP Drawing, AP Photography, and AP Visual Arts. The exhibit highlighted the dedication and creativity of BNDS’s young artists, drawing admiration from parents, teachers, and peers alike.

A Diverse Display of Artistic Excellence

Under the guidance of Mr. Nevdon Jamgochian, AP Art instructor, the exhibit featured works from students in various grade levels and courses, reflecting the breadth of artistic training at BNDS. AP 2D and AP Drawing students presented striking compositions in mixed media, digital art, and traditional painting, while AP 3D artists displayed intricate sculptures and installations. Non-exam Grade 10 AP 3D students contributed innovative three-dimensional pieces, and Grade 12 non-exam AP Photography students exhibited captivating images that showcased our amazing cafeteria staff. Additionally, Grade 11 and 12 AP Visual Arts students showcased paintings, illustrations, and sculptures.

The range of media demonstrated the students’ willingness to experiment and push artistic boundaries. Each piece told a unique story.

Voices from the Exhibit: Parents, Students, and Faculty

The event was met with enthusiastic responses from attendees. One parent remarked, "I was truly amazed by the level of sophistication in these works. It’s incredible to see how much thought and effort the students have put into their art. This exhibit isn’t just a display of skill—it’s a window into their perspectives and passions."

For the participating students, the exhibit was both a celebration and a culmination of months of hard work. Naomi, a Grade 11 AP 3D student, shared, "Seeing my work displayed alongside my peers’ pieces was a surreal experience. Art can sometimes feel like a solitary process, but today reminded me that we’re all part of a creative community."

Steffen Incze, BNDS Arts Director, praised the students’ achievements, stating, "This year’s exhibit is a testament to the incredible talent and dedication of our young artists. They’ve not only mastered technical skills but have also developed strong conceptual voices. Events like this are vital because they validate the importance of art in education and give students a platform to share their vision with the world."

A Celebration of Artistic Growth

The AP Art Exhibit serves as more than just a year-end display—it is a reflection of BNDS’s commitment to fostering creativity and critical thinking. The works on view demonstrated not only technical proficiency but also deep personal exploration.

Looking Ahead

With another successful exhibit concluded, BNDS’s art program continues to set a high standard for artistic education. The dedication of both students and faculty ensures that the school remains a nurturing environment for emerging artists.
