IB CAS Night Orienteering

Date: October 25 , 2023 04:15:20 View ()

The leaves have turned. The temperatures have dropped. The Mid-Autumn festival has passed, and the mooncakes have been eaten!

Fresh off of the blissful rest of Golden Week, BNDS IB students were ready and eager to revel in their first CAS activity of the 2023-2024 school year.

As is recent tradition, the Blue Society planned, prepared and hosted the IB CAS Night Orienteering activity, which took place on October 18th, beginning in the Hall of Ties, and expanding across the school campus.

All IB students from the Blue, Red, Yellow and Purple societies gathered in the Hall of Ties at 6:00 PM last Wednesday night, arriving with their partners, and then each receiving a handful of glowsticks and a map.

On these maps were markings that signified the locations of ‘stations’ – and challenges – in which each group needed to find and complete in order to get points for their team and society.

The goal of the activity was simple in nature – locate and complete as many stations and challenges in the fastest amount of time possible and return to the Hall of Ties to report the score.

However, the challenges, which included games such as hangman, scavenger hunt, bottle flipping, and placing Oreos on foreheads and then attempting to eat them with no hands, proved much more challenging than expected.

“It was the best night orienteering event that I have ever taken part in!” remarked Red Society Leader, Mr. Jordan Scroggs. He admitted, however, that the “oreo eating challenge was difficult. And the flavor was weird”. Many students echoed the teacher-leader’s sentiments.

The event marked another successful and active CAS event for the IB program. In the end, the Purple Society tallied the highest number of points, with Yellow following closely behind, then Blue and Red societies taking 3rd and 4th place, respectively.

IB students now turn their excitement to the CAS Comic Con, a fashion show in which students dress up in spooky fashion.

The latter event is to take place, on Tuesday, October 31 in the MUN.
